Multiple bomb blasts rocked the nation’s capital, Abuja, yesterday. The first one happened at the suburban area called Kuje, near the entrance of the police station, killing an unidentified woman. Police sources told Daily Trust that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber at about 9:00pm, but additional details remained sketchy.
The second explosion, which went off at the Kuje Main Market, was deadlier, claiming scores of victims. The area, densely-populated even at night, was in chaos, as our reporter observed. Also, there was a heavy presence of security personnel and emergency workers with many ambulances moving injured people and corpses.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials and vehicles were at the scene, even as body parts littered the scene of the horrific attack.
The Kuje market explosion happened at about 9:30pm, thirty minutes after the one that rocked the police station area.
Similarly, twin blasts were heard yesterday at Jikwoyi Park in Nyanya, Abuja, where it was speculated that scores were killed. It happened at about the same time with the Kuje Main Market incident.
Vicky Ododo, a witness, said they heard two blasts and saw people lying on the ground, while majority were rushing for safety from the direction of the park.
Ustaz Yunus Salaudeen, a resident of Nyanya, also informed that twin blasts were heard, which shook buildings. He said after making several calls, he was informed that a bomb blast occurred at Jikwoyi Park, close to A.A Rano Filling Station.
No terrorist group has claimed the attacks yet. Efforts to reach the police for comment proved abortive as at press time.
